Vane Tempest Theatre Group have returned to their “home” in Enfield Road Methodist Church to resume their 2023 performances following major refurbishment works. “The Many Aspects of Love” was their latest convert of songs poems and sketches all with a common theme of love.
Vane Tempest have returned to their choral format, with as always some superb arrangements from musical director, compère and King of the bad jokes, Ben Wardropper. Such a talented gentleman he is, keeping the audience entertained between numbers with the jokes from his repertoire and leading Vane Tempests group with some excellent vocal arrangements.
We were entertained with a selection of songs with love within the theme from both pop and musicals alike, such as Seasons of Love, I Wanna know what love is, I can hear the bells, a mothers prayer, hey Jude, Love of the Common People, Surround yourself with sorrow, I know I have a heart, A fool never learns, On Top of the World and I Would Do Anything for Love in Part one. They respectively featured very nice solos from Matthew Finkel, Ashleigh Hallimond, Lindsey Southwick, Suzy Wake, Helen Southwisk, Diane Henderson and Nick Thompson.
In Part Two we heard Love Story, Angel on my Shoulder, I Wanna Dance with Somebody, Take me Home (Country Roads), Black Hills of Dakota, Caledonia, I Hold your Hand in Mine, You are the reason, The Rose, A Thousand Years and L.O.V.E. They respectively featured solos from Leslie Cummings, Gemma Parnaby, John Reay, Keith Armitage, Toni Harrison and Ben Wardropper.
I very much enjoyed during A Thousand years the BSL interpretation from Gemma Parnaby and Makaton by Helen and Lindsey Southwick. Such a lovely way to make music more accessible to all.
We also were entertained by short sketches called “Beetlemania”, “Debbie and Claire go round in circles” and “The Speedy Undertaker” which were funny and entertaining.
All in all – a lovely evening’s entertainment. Thank you all and I am very much looking forward to your musical "White Christmas" in November.
